MIP sales roundup

Looks like there's a whole lot of selling going on in Cannes right now. Aardman, Rainbow, HIT and more announced new broadcast deals today.

ABC Australia has snapped up the six x 29-minute Wallace & Gromit present A World of Invention from Bristol, England's Aardman Animations for a late 2010 broadcast. The series was commissioned by BBC One, and will be accompanied by a website and online campaign to encourage fans to explore their inventive sides.

Additionally, ABC Australia has picked up the New Zealand-produced mystery drama Kaitangata Twitch, based on the kidlit title from the author Margaret Mahy on Maori culture. Distributed by Lenz Entertainment, the 13 x half-hour live-action/CGI series is produced by Chris Hampson, with executive producers Dorothee Pinfold and Yvonne Mackay.

Animated comedy PopPixie (52 x 13 minutes) from Italy's Rainbow has also been generating interest, selling to RAI ( Italy), France 3, KTV (South Africa) and Noga (Israel). The series, with a core target of girls and boys five to 12, is slated for a 2010 delivery.

Meanwhile, CiTV has commissioned Farm Camp, a 10 x 20-minute series from Handle and Spout sponsored by Morissons Let's Grow; it takes a group of kids who are asked to trade their city life for one on the farm to learn where their food comes from.

HIT Entertainment has been dancing away with sales of its new CG-animated incarnation of Angelina Ballerina - The Next Steps (80 x 12 minutes), which has been picked up by ABC Australia, Treehouse (Canada), France 5, DKLA (Latin America), Zeppelin NOS (Holland), YLE (Finland), Momo (Taiwan) and DR (Denmark.

TV-Loonland, the Euro and Africa rep for WordWorld, has sold the worldwide French-speaking rights to the preschool series to France Televisions Distribution for an on-air debut in 2010. FTD has also secured the French-speaking worldwide rights for L&M and home entertainment and the format will be an English language learning concept that integrates both languages in speech and text.

Harriet the Spy will be sleuthing about on Disney Channel, as Toronto, Canada's 9 Story Entertainment pre-sells the new live-action movie to the kidnet. The prodco will produce and distribute the movie based on the classic books by Louise Fitzhugh, which is slated to premiere worldwide on all Disney Channels beginning in 2010. It's also the first global movie alliance for Disney Channels Worldwide.
